Sedekah Bumi Potrobayan, is part of the Potrobayan Project initiated by Gilang Damar and Lintang Radittya, in collaboration with musicians Moong Pribadi and Gamelan Sampah. Held in Potrobayan Village, Pundong Bantul, in February - March 2018. This project was supported by a grant from the Asia Center, Japan Foundation.
The project, which started the previous year, was a project that initially took the form of a sound installation for a gallery space. Trying to read the history of the geological and seismic disasters that occurred in Jogja, based on myth (geomytology), is the basic idea. Several local myths, about the large tsunami that occurred in the south of Yogyakarta (Java), to the large earthquake in 2006 are the events discussed in this project.
The project, which was originally designed as a gallery space, changed direction to become a public space, with a more participatory concept. Involving local residents, with their experiences, trauma, and ways of dealing with disasters is felt to be more capable of discussing the ideas of this work in a more inclusive manner. Potrobayan, was chosen as the place where this event was held. The choice of Potrobayan Village, which according to research from the Yogyakarta National Development University team, was the epicenter of the 2006 earthquake, is very special, because the local community has a close relationship with the disaster event.
