Soil
has various important meanings, not only seen as part of the ecosystem,
but also in a wider context. As a part of the geological system, soil
is also a collection of data that has various meanings that can be
obtained and used as information for various needs.
As
a field of data and information, which has the possibility of being
known, various instruments have been built that are capable of reading
this data. Scientific studies such as geology, agriculture, civil
engineering, architecture, use many scientific instruments to view
various information about land. Meanwhile, from a cultural perspective,
people who are more traditional or traditional use tools that are more
speculative and often more abstract.
There
is no absolute method for viewing information about land, although
sometimes paradoxical relationships occur in viewing the value of the
information. The usefulness value ultimately comes from the angle where
the information is needed. In this study, binary and possibly hybrid
methods will be used to view data and information about land, as an
effort to widen the way of reading and viewing land. Initial research
from this work has been presented at the ARTJOG MMXXI Time To Wonder
event in two formats: mechanical sound instalation and sound
performance.

ARTJOG CURATORIAL TEXT XXMMI TIME TO WONDER
Etymologically, the
Pedaphony Theorem is referred to to interpret the proposition regarding
sounds produced or originating from the ground. Land that is interpreted
geologically, as well as land that is associated with territory and
origin.
Lintang Radittya in his investigations with natural
spaces, soundscapes, collective memories of events that are closely
linked to certain sites - creates a connection of ideas that are
realized idiosyncratically in this work. He created an installation work
that operates as a decoding machine for soil texture samples collected
from various places.
The place and land chosen, in turn, have
a background story related to all matters of the past. In this work, he
presents sounds interpreted by machines working on a collection of
earthen materials. This sound tells the story of memories that grow
above and below the ground in a symphony of synthetic and organic
sounds.
Research on this land is also represented in the format of a sound performance: MERETAS TANAH KEHENDAK TANAH (Hacking THe Will Of The Land) in the series of ARTJOG MMXXI performances.
